Best Time to Go
Winter and spring are considered Tampa's high season. During the summer, you'll be exposed
to huge, showy thunderstorms on many afternoons, and temperatures hover around 90°F
during the day but drop to the mid-70s at night.
Average Weather
Summer is hot, humid and muggy. Winter is ideal in Tampa - with temperatures hanging
around 60 or 70. During spring (March-May), temperatures go up and make way for the summer
heat. This is a nice time to visit. Throughout July and August, temperatures hit 90
degrees and the humidity is thick.
Transportation
When in Tampa do as the Tampa folks do - drive a car. A car is the best and most
convenient way to get around Tampa. I-75 and U.S. 41 stretch the length of the region.
U.S. 41 links the business districts of many communities, so it's best to avoid it and all
bridges during rush hours. U.S. 19 is St. Petersburg's major north-south artery; traffic
can be heavy, and there are many lights, so use a different route when possible.
In-Season Costs
Tampa's high season is during the winter. Most hotel prices escalate at this time of year,
but tend to dip back down during the late spring and summer.
Day Trips
Just a short ways away from Tampa is Bradenton and Sarasota. Known for beautiful beaches,
these cities are worth the trip.
Orlando is about two hours east of Tampa. If you have some extra time, you should head
over to Mickey land - especially if this is a family trip.
In Tampa for romance? Take a trip south to Siesta Key - this place is known for its
sunsets. Siesta Key is about two hours from Tampa and is an easy drive.
