 Burlington At a Glance
Best Time to Go
Leaf-peeping in the fall, skiing in the winter, spring and summer outdoors activities and
a super arts community. Burlington is the perfect year-round destination.
Average Weather
Burlington has a true New England climate, and is one of the cloudiest cities in the USA
due to the combination of lake effect weather and the nearby mountains. Burlington has
long, snowy winters and pleasant summers (when youll seldom want air conditioning).
January is the coldest month with average highs of 25 and average lows of 8 F. July is the
warmest month with an average high of 81 and an average low of 59. Burlington expects an
average of 80 inches of snow during the winter season.
Transportation
US Air, Continental, and United Airlines serve Burlington International Airport. While
local bus service exists, a car is a real essential for visiting the area. Avis, Budget,
Dollar, National, and Hertz all have Burlington locations. Lake Champlain Ferries provide
service between New York and Vermont; you can call them at (802) 864-9804.
In-Season Costs
While Burlington has a range of hotels from budget to luxury, it is imperative that you
book in advance. Between leaf-peeing, University of Vermont events, and other activities,
hotel rooms can be hard to come by without advance booking. Expect to pay upwards of $150
for a luxury romantic bed and breakfast, while you can find a nice resort room at a chain
in the $90 range. Burlington has a range of eating establishments, so its pretty
much spend what you choose. You can easily find dinner with a ten dollar tag
or schedule a major gourmet blow-out if you so choose.
Day Trips
Burlington residents often opt for shopping in Boston, gambling in Atlantic City or
shopping in New York City on their day trips --- and so might you if you are on a long
sojourn in Vermont. If you are vacationing, keep in mind that youre right next door
to the heart of the Adirondack Mountains.
